Overview

Highlander Hybrid holds the distinction of being the sport utility vehicle that crosses demographic boundaries between buyers of SUVs, passenger cars, minivans and environmentally sensitive and fuel-efficient vehicles. For 2008, the Highlander Hybrid raises the bar once again in the midsize SUV segment with a complete redesign.

Engine and Performance

Highlander Hybrid is offered as an electronic, on-demand four-wheel drive with intelligence in Base and Limited grades. It has an advanced hybrid synergy drive system. The 3.3-liter, V-6 engine, with its high-torque electric-drive motor generator, has been extensively upgraded and refined for both power and economy. Despite the added weight, the engineering team has been able to increase output of the hybrid synergy drive powertrain to 270 net horsepower, while delivering impressive preliminary fuel economy.

Body and Styling

On the outside, Highlander Hybrid moves away from traditional SUV styling cues, making a statement of strength over ruggedness, of intelligence over toughness. Design intelligence is carried through to the refined interior, which is practical and versatile.

Safety Features

Highlander Hybrid is equipped with one of the highest levels of standard safety features in the small and midsize SUV segments. With a segment-leading total of seven air bags, it also provides the most comprehensive air bag coverage in any Toyota vehicle. Standard is Toyota's star safety system, which now includes enhanced vehicle stability control and traction control, anti-lock brake system with electronic brake-force distribution, and brake assist. The Highlander Hybrid goes a step further by employing a vehicle dynamics integrated management system.
